. he was quoted as saying that he thought the economy was performing at near full potential. now, first of all, when we decide that 1.5% growth is near full potential, we are in terrible trouble. and i would say geithner suffers from an amazing lack of ambition for this economy. i actually think that's what's wrong with the entire obama administration, they have a lack of ambition for this country and what it can and should do. but i would also say if he believes that, that tim geithner believes that a public sector job is equivalent to a private sector job. it's not that public sector jobs aren't important. teachers are important, firemen are important, nurses are important. but a public sector job doesn't pay for itself. taxpayers pay for it. a public sector job doesn't create other jobs. a private sector job pays for itself and creates other jobs. i frankly found his statement shocking. both because of its lack of ambition and because of its misunderstanding of what actually drives growth. it's not public sector jobs. >> let me ask you this, under reagan's recovery, were we laying of

on the economy, they were actually basically siding with romney. they were basically willing to give up on obama, say it's failed, and think that romney's competent. where they were having reservations, and why romney was not having the kind of margins he needed was on social issues, abortion, contraception, planned parenthood, things like this. things that have been emphasized by the obama campaign. that might account for what happened in ohio. if that's the case, that would account for, you know, romney telling the editorial board, basically trying to say, you know, hey, women, if you're willing to vote for me on the economy, you don't have to worry about all this abortion stuff. that is certainly a tactic he's used before. ten years ago, the only general election campaign that mitt romney ever ran, the basic problem was the suburban voters were ready to vote for him. the swing voters in massachusetts were ready to vote for him. they didn't want to have all democratic control in massachusetts. they had reservations about him on abortion, because he had already -- he thought he was running for

news. we all hope the economy starts coming back around, that people get back to work. if you look at second quarter growth numbers this last year, those have been adjusted downward to 1.3%. you still have fuel prices of more than doubled since the president took office, health insurance costs are up 29%, college tuition up 25%. as i said earlier, incomes are down. and so we've got serious economic problems in this country that need to be addressed that aren't being addressed. we need to change the direction of the country. that's what a romney-ryan ticket will do is a different approach, it's not based upon the expansion of government in washington, d.c it's expanding the private economy where good paying jobs are really created, getting americans back to work, getting the economy growing again. and making it a more prosperous future for our children and grandchildren. i think you'll see great contrast and americans will have a very clear choice about two different visions for the future of this country. i believe that will come out very clearly in the debate this evening. >> shep
